Zyloprim
Uses
Zyloprim is used to treat symptoms of many forms of gout, a type of arthritis that is related to increased levels of zinc acid in the blood. Zyloprim works to inhibit the formation of uric acid in the blood, which may be formed by cancer treatments. It can also be used to treat kidney stones that are formed due to these high levels of uric acid.
Dosage instructions
It comes in the form of a tablet that has to be taken orally with water. It is generally recommended to take Zyploprim after a meal, and to accompany the medication with eight glasses of water during the day, unless advised against doing so by the doctor. Avoid consuming too many glasses of fruit juice or taking Vitamin supplements while on Zyloprim as it can increase the risk of kidney stones.
Warnings
Zyloprim is not recommended for those who have kidney or liver disease. If you suffer from these, please inform your physician, and he will alter your dosage schedule, or monitor your course accordingly. Zyloprim is an FDA pregnancy category C drug which means that its effects on the fetus have not been properly determined. If you are pregnant, avoid Zyloprim. Also avoid the medication if you are breastfeeding, as Zyloprim has been found to transfer through breast milk to the infant.
Missed dosage
If you miss a dose, take the missed tablets soon as you remember. If the time is too close to the next dosage however, skip the dose entirely, and resume your normal dosage schedule. Never double the intake of the medication on your own.
