Zyban
Uses
Zyban is a medication that is used to help smokers give up smoking. Unlike nicotine patches, it contains no nicotine.
Dosage
It comes in the form of a tablet that has to be taken orally, twice a day. It can be taken with or without food. The tablet has to be swallowed whole, and cannot be crushed or broken.
Warnings
Zyban should not be used in conjunction with other medications that contain bupropion. Zyban is not recommended for those with a history of seizures, head trauma, cirrhosis of the liver. Zyban is pregnancy category B drug which indicates that it has not been found to have adverse effects on the fetus. If you are pregnant or are planning to conceive, inform your doctor before starting the medication. If you are nursing, do not take the medication without first consulting with your physician as it is not known if the medication can be passed through breast milk.
Missed dosage
If you miss a dose, do not take an extra tablet to make up for the missed dose. Simply skip the missed dose, and continue with your normal dosage schedule.
Side effects
Sleeplessness and dryness of the mouth may be seen which is no cause for worry. These side effects will disappear over time. More serious side effects include hypertension, and this is especially likely to occur if you are using Zyban in conjunction with a nicotine patch. Shakiness and dizziness may also be seen. If you see any signs of an allergic reaction like skin hives, rashes, swelling of the eyes, lips and face, or other allergic reactions, swelling of the lymph glands, fevers, consult your physician immediately. Storage
Zyban should be stored in a dark place away from sunlight, and in a tightly closed container. Keep away from reach of children.
Over dose
Use Zyban only as prescribed. Never increase dosage on your own. If you notice weakness or an accelerated heart beat, seizures, loss of consciousness, hallucinations, and heart attack, seek emergency medical care immediately.
