What is Transderm-Scop?
Transderm-Scop stands for an anticholinergic drug and is used to reduce the secretion of fluids. This medication is effective for treating vomiting, nausea and dizziness provoked by the sickness of motion.
What is the most important information I should know about Transderm-Scop?
In some cases Transderm-Scop leads to drowsiness, blurred vision and dizziness. Be especially careful when you are operating heavy machinery, driving or performing other tasks that require your full attention. If it is possible, avoid such activities when you are under Transderm-Scop. Give up alcohol, as it is likely to aggravate such Transderm-Scop side effects as dizziness and drowsiness.
Consult with your health care provider in case you have one of the following conditions:
an enlarged prostate;
a liver disease;
problems with the bladder;
difficulty urinating;
glaucoma;
a kidney disease.
You may need lower doses and special monitoring during treatment.
FDA: pregnancy category C. It is still unknown if Transderm-Scop can have a negative impact on a fetus. If you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant, do not start treatment with Transderm-Scop without discussing it with your doctor beforehand. Transderm-Scop may appear in breast milk. If you are breastfeeding a baby, avoid taking this drug.
Transderm-Scop isn't meant for use in children, as they are more sensitive to the medication's side effects.
How should I use Transderm-Scop?
Transderm-Scop patch should be applied to the area behind the ear, 4 hours before travel. Each patch can be effective for 3 days, after that you should remove the used patch and, if necessary, take another one and apply it behind the other ear.
After the patch has been applied you should wash your hands with soap. Be careful, so that the drug doesn't come into contact with your eyes to prevent them from itching. In case a certain amount of the drug got to your eyes, rinse then thoroughly with water and inform your health care provider if painful sensations don't disappear.
The patch should be kept dry when you wear it. Keep it in its place even if you are swimming or bathing. However, if the patch falls off, it should be replaced with a new one, applied to the area behind the other ear.
It is important not to apply more than one patch at once.
Transderm-Scop should be kept away from moisture and heat. Store the drug at room temperature.
What happens if I miss a dose?
Use the dose you missed asap. Never take an additional dose to make up for the missed one.
What happens if I overdose?
Transderm-Scop overdose symptoms include agitation, drowsiness, seizures, dizziness, convulsions, excitability, hallucinations and even death. Be careful. If overdose is suspected, seek immediate medical attention.
