Tamiflu
Uses
Tamiflu is a flu medication that is used to treat the symptoms of influenza infection.
Dosage
Tamiflu is recommended to be taken with food because its therapeutic qualities are increased, although it can be taken without food too. It has to be taken orally, and the recommended dosage is 75 mg daily for a total of 5 days. Begin treatment within 2 days after you notice the onset of flu symptoms.
Warning
Tamiflu is only a flu medication that can be used when you begin to develop the symptoms of influenza, or when you have been exposed to someone with flu. It is not meant to be used as a flu vaccination. You should continue to receive your annual flu vaccination as scheduled. The effects of Tamiflu on breast milk or the possibility of transmission to the infant has not been ascertained; therefore, you should use this drug while breastfeeding only if you feel that the benefits of using it are greater than the risks involved. Its effects in pregnancy too have not been fully determined; consult your doctor before you start taking Tamiflu if you are pregnant.
Missed dosage
Stick to a strict schedule with your medication. If, however you miss a dose, take the missed dose immediately. If you remember too close to he next dose, simply skip the missed dose, and continue with your normal dosage schedule. Never double the dosage to make up for the missed one.
Side effects
The side effects of Tamiflu are vomiting, nausea with no vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, headaches and dizziness, insomnia, and tiredness, cough.
Storage
Tamiflu should be stored at a temperature between 36 degrees to 46 degrees Fahrenheit. Do not freeze the medication.
Overdose
If you notice nausea or vomiting, or other symptoms of an overdose, seek medical care immediately.
