Retin-A
Uses
This medication is use to enhance the appearance of the skin by working on both the epidermis and the dermis. It reduces the damaging effects of sunlight on the skin by increasing the rate of production of newer skin cells.
Dosage
Wash the affected area, and dry. Use a cotton swab to apply a thin layer of Retin-A to the affected are. Apply once a day before bedtime. Wash your hands after you apply the cream. Don’t apply more than is needed or more often than is prescribed by your doctor. It doesn’t increase the efficacy of the product, but could result in an increase in side effects. Avoids using near the eyes, mouth or nose, and don’t apply on open cuts. In the early days of Retin-A usage, you may notice a sudden flaring up of your acne. Don’t worry about this; it will subside in a few days. Retin-A can take between 3 to 6 weeks to begin to take effect. While on the medication, use other anti acne formulations, cleansers or medicated soaps with caution – these may irritate your skin.
Warnings
Your skin may feel overly sensitive to sunlight, wind or cold. Take care to protect you self by wearing appropriate clothing and sunscreen when you step out. If you’re pregnant, only use Retin-A if needed. It has not been determined if this medication passes through breast milk. If you’re nursing, take this medication only after consultation with your doctor.
Missed dosage
If you miss a dosage, re apply the missed dosage as soon as you remember to. If however, it’s too close to your second application, skip the missed one and continue with your normal dosage schedule.
Side effects
Since there is a possibility of skin irritation, it is better to begin by testing Retin-A on a small patch of skin before proceeding to use it all over your face. You may notice increased sensitivity to sunlight. Wear sunscreens when you go out in the sun or expose yourself to sun lamps. You may also notice sensitivity to cold and wind. In the first days of the treatment, you may notice that your symptoms flare up. This happens because of the elimination of cysts inside the skin, and is perfectly normal. If you notice any allergic reactions to any of the ingredients in Retin-A, discontinue use and consult your doctor immediately.
Storage
Spore Retin-A in a dark place, away from the reach of children. Always keep at room temperature.
Overdose
Don’t use Retin-a more than is prescribed or for longer periods of time. You may notice redness or peeling of the skin. Overdose symptoms like facial flushes, ataxia, fleeting headaches and dizziness have also been seen.
