Evista
Uses
Evista is used to prevent the thinning of bones in women which indicates osteoporosis. It has been found to decrease the risk of osteoporosis and also reduces the risk of invasive breast cancer in menopausal women.
Dosage
Evista comes in the form of a tablet that can be taken with or without meals. Take one 60 milligram tablet of Evista daily.
Warnings
Evista has been found to cause blood clots in some cases, so if you have a history of blood clots, don’t take Evista without consulting your medical practitioner. If you have a history of liver disease, strokes, high rates of triglycerides, inform your doctor. He will monitor your dosage schedule or alter your medication needs to suit your requirements. Evista is in the pregnancy category X of the FDA which means that it is known to cause harmful effects in the unborn baby. If you’re pregnant or plan on conceiving, inform your doctor before beginning on Evista. It is not known if Evista passes on through breast milk, so don’t take Evista while nursing without informing your doctor.
Missed dosage
In case of a missed dose, just take the dose as soon as you remember. If it’s too close to the time of your next dose, skip the missed tablet and resume with your regular schedule.
Side effects
In rare cases, Evista has been found linked to the formation of blood clots in the veins especially in the leg, eyes or lungs. If you notice a sudden warmth in the legs, swelling in the hands or legs, coughing up blood or blurred visions, discontinue use and consult your physician immediately. These side effects are quite rare however, and most of Evista's side effects like hot flushes and cramps are mild in nature.
Storage
Evista should be stored at 68 to 77 degrees Fahrenheit, with excursions allowed between 59 and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.
