What is Denavir?

Denavir is an antiviral drug which is applied topically and helps to treat recurring cold sores. Besides, Denavir can be used for other purposes besides those listed above.

What is the most important information I should know about Denavir?

It isn't recommended that you apply Denavir to the eye areas or to the inside part of the nose, as it may result in irritation.

Denavir doesn't provoke serious side effects. Its common list of side effects includes numbness or tingling in the areas where the cream was applied, change in taste, headache, irritation of the area of application or rash.

It isn't recommended that you apply any other topical drug to the same area as Denavir unless your health care provider prescribed you that.

Consult with your doctor before combining Denavir with any other - prescription or over-the-counter medication.

According to FDA Denavir belongs to pregnancy cat. B. Denavir isn't expected to have a negative impact on a fetus. You shouldn't take this medication if you are pregnant without consulting with your health care provider beforehand. It is still unknown if Denavir appears in breast milk. In case you are breastfeeding, avoid using Denavir or see your health care provider beforehand.

How should I use Denavir?

You should use the medication exactly as it was prescribed by the doctor. Apply Denavir to cold sore lesions once in two hours for four days.

Start applying Denavir as soon as you noticed any infection symptoms.

Before using this cream you should wash and dry your face and hands. It is recommended that you apply Denavir to the cold sore area only and rub it in until it is totally absorbed by your skin pores. As son as you used Denavir you should thoroughly wash your hands with soap. It is especially important to use this medication before the cold sores appear. In order to eliminate the infection completely you should follow the whole course of treatment without missing a dose.

Remember that Denavir is meant to treat cold sores on the face and lips only, so follow the prescription properly.

The drug should be kept at room temperature, protected from heat and moisture. Store it in a safe place where children can't find it.

What happens if I miss a dose?

In case you occasionally missed a dose, take it asap. If it is almost time to take the next dose, skip the missed one and take the dose that is regularly scheduled. Never double a dose to catch up, as it may result in undesirable side effects.

What happens if I overdose?

Although Denavir overdose is not likely to lead to life-threatening side effects, if an overdose is suspected or if this cream was occasionally ingested, you should seek emergency medical help.
