Clarinex
Uses
Clarinex is an antihistamine that is used to treat symptoms of runny or itchy nose, watery eyes, sneezing and other symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis or hay fever.
Dosage
Clarinex comes in the form of a tablet that has to be taken orally. It can be taken with or without food. Remember to follow all instructions on your label carefully, and get all doubts clarified by your doctor or physician. Don’t increase your dosage or modify it, without consulting your physician.
Warnings
If you suffer from liver disease or kidney disease, or have ever had an allergic reaction to an anti histamine, your doctor will be able to monitor your schedule or alter your dosage appropriately. Clarinex is a medication that falls in the pregnancy category C of the FDA. The effects of its use on a fetus are not known and therefore, Clarinex is not advised for use in pregnant women. If you’re pregnant or are trying to conceive, don’t take this medication. Also, avoid Clarinex if you’re nursing, as Clarinex has been found to be passed on to the infant through breast milk.
Missed dosage
If you miss a dose of Clarinex, take your missed dose as soon as you remember. If however the time is too close to your next dose, then skip the missed dose altogether, and resume your regular dosage schedule. Taking two dosses together is not advised.
Side effects
You may notice side effects like dryness in the mouth, drowsiness, fatigue and sore throat. There may even be dizziness, muscle pain, nausea and symptoms of flu. In the rarest of cases, allergic reactions like hives and itching, swelling, accelerated heart beats, and shortness of breath may be seen. If you notice any other side effects, discontinue the use of the medication, and consult your physician.
Storage
Clarinex should be stored in a dry place in the same container that it came in. Keep all medication away from children. Keep the container rightly closed and in a cool place.
Overdose
Not much is known about the symptoms of unintentional over dosage of Clarinex. If however you notice drowsiness or accelerated heartbeat, seek emergency medical care promptly.
