Bentyl

Uses

Bentyl is used to relieve spasms in the bladder, stomach and intestine muscles. It helps control the production of stomach acid. It may be used for the treatment of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and diverticulosis.

Dosage

Bentyl should be taken exactly as prescribed by your doctor. Do not increase the dosage on your own, or continue this medication for long periods of time. Also, do not increase the frequency of dosage without informing your doctor.

Warnings

If you are planning on conceiving, inform your doctor before starting a course of Bentyl. Stopping Bentyl suddenly may also cause dizziness, nausea and vomiting. Your doctor will be able to prescribe a gradually lowered dosage which will prevent these withdrawal symptoms.

Missed Dosage

In case of a missed dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. If the time is too close to the time of your next dose, skip that dose entirely. Never double the dosage to make up for the missed dosage.

Side effects

Commonly seen side effects are constipation, dryness of mouth, nose, throat, and skin, confusion or memory loss, difficulty in urination, drowsiness, nervousness, unusual excitement, irritability, or restlessness.

Storage

Bentyl should be stored at a controlled temperature between 59 degrees and 86 degrees Fahrenheit.

Overdose

If you experience blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, dilated pupils, dryness of the mouth, hot dry skin, difficulty in swallowing dizziness, or other symptoms of a Bentyl overdose, seek emergency medical care immediately.
